6 Months

Well, Miss Priss turned 6 months on Saturday. In our family, we generally celebrate half birthdays...however, this Saturday we had a sick Daddy, so we'll have to celebrate next Saturday. I could write all day about how wonderful this little girl is and how much joy she has added to our lives--its been amazing to see how she has been woven into our family. Its hard to believe that its already been 6 months--time is going way too fast with her. Its amazing how difficult it is to be able to cherish each moment, but we are striving to.

I took her to the doctor today and unfortunately, she is losing weight. She weighed 14.2 pounds at her 4 month doctor visit and today she weighed in at 13.8. We are giving her more cereal, mixed with breastmilk, rather than water, more times per day. We will go for a "weight check" in two weeks to see if this is helping. This is about the age that Logan dropped off of the charts, so we expected to see her slowing down a bit, but we didn't expect her to actually be losing any weight. Hopefully some added calories will help her gain back some of what she has lost.

Food...Real Food

Elly had her first taste of cereal last week--Feb. 11. I know, I know...this is late, but I don't like to feed my kids until they are 6 months old. Elly was sooo ready that we couldn't wait any longer--she was watching us eat every evening and mimicking us chewing. She wasn't as thrilled with it as Logan was, but she did like it in the end.

Relevance

About 5 years ago, Jarrod was on the mission team at our old church--this was his passion. This is my passion in life--if I could leave tomorrow, kids in tow, I would go without hesitation across the world to proclaim Christ. I knowingly married a man who did not believe this to be his calling in life and I am happy with that also--mainly because I know that he has a passion and love for this area as great as mine--he just has a different approach. We committed to get involved and support missionaries in any ways that were possible for our family. So, back to my story...in the midst of this team, some things came up where the local outreach team needed to be combined with the foreign mission team. Admittedly, I had complete tunnel vision. I wasn't really excited about this--my thoughts rang with how could these two things be "the same"...I mean, we as Americans have had every opportunity to see God, to feel God and to be appreciative of God and sadly most have chosen not to be. To be quite frank, I had a really bad attitude about this indifference to God. Well...little did I know that God had planted a seed that I didn't even realize until recently. I am being molded and chiseled--I am being more convicted every day, God is being lost in our country. Some of the people I love the most in this world do not hold God as important and some with good reason--no one has been Christ TO them. I heard a song on the Lima mission team site a few months ago that I loved (God of This City)--I loved it as a song about all of those "cities" in other countries where the gospel needs to be. (Click here for the link--http://www.twentyeight19.org/2008/11/15/lima-video/ ) After reading an email that Jarrod has tried to get me to read for some time Jarrod and I have discussed that God is not relevant in our culture. People ask where God is and that's the answer that I'm coming to...he's here, he's just not relevant--even in our local churches...so my thoughts have wandered to this thought...God is the God of this City--right here--what are we doing to make Him relevant to those around us? I pray that I have a different answer for myself next week and the next.

Stars Game

Last week was a big week at our house to say the least...my parents left, Stock Show, Rodeo, and then a Dallas Stars game to end the week...whew was it fun. Mommy and Elly decided to sit out this game since it would have meant another late night for the early bird. (Can you tell that Logan thought that the buzzer was loud??)

2009 Stock Show

After my parents left we went to the Ft. Worth Stock Show. We had a fantastic time--the weather was AWESOME. Even Miss Priss loved getting to ride in the stroller for the first time sans carrier and see all of the animals. Logan insisted that we not miss the rodeo, so we went back on Thursday night to see the rodeo also. Logan loved it and can't wait for next year already!

And they're off...

My parents closed on their Abilene house at the end of January and are now gone. Here's a picture of their last morning with us before they made the drive to Tennessee.

"When I grow up...

I want to be a race car driver.
No, wait I want to be a dad"
(my thinking at this point...oh, how sweet...)
"That way, I can give sassy sauce, and put my little boy in time out..."

Yes, folks...apparently that's a dad at our house! HA!
(I should add, that I think my kids have one of the BEST dads on the ENTIRE planet...just so that the records straight.)
